There are social, political, economic, psychological, health related reasons connected to superstitions like Banamathi, Chillangi etc. Most of the victims of all such types of oppressive practices are Dalits. 90 percent of people who are killed in the name of Banamathi (Witchcraft) are also Dalit Bahujan. Killing dalits in the name of Banamathi is a part of caste-based oppression.

Human Scarifies

 1)      Two humans sacrificed in Thirupathi village of Nagari Mandal in Chittur District  reported in Gemini News 23/09/2010

2)      Some people tried to sacrifice a person in Neredmet of Vinayaknagar in Hyderabad he died in hospital reported by Maha TV- on 22/4/2011

3)      A man belongs to Karnataka was sacrificed by unknown people in Renigunta of Chittur district reported in Maha TV on 22/09/2011

4)      One women was sacrificed by un known people for digging gold in Sadashivapet of Medak district   reported by Sakshi TV – on 06/11/2011

5)      A five years old girl was sacrificed by unknown people for digging of gold in Utkoor of Mahaboobnagar District reported by N-Studio on 19/11/2011

6)      A 9th class student was sacrificed by unknown people in Shyamgadh area of Nirmal Town in Adilabad District reported by all TV Channels on 26/01/2012

Killings and attacks on the name of witchcraft

1)      A family was attacked branding as witches and sorcerers in Singarayapally village of Koderu Mandal in Mahaboobnagar District-  reported in Gemini News channel on 29/08/2010

2)      A person killed his own mother branding her as witch in Kondlavai village of Nalgonda District reported by ABN Andhra Jyothi on 31/08/2010

3)      A man was killed by villagers branding him as sorcerer  in Vijayanagaram District  reported by Studio- N on01/09/2010

4)      A man beaten to death by villagers in Kanchalavalasa Village of Menthada Mandal in Vijayanagaram District – Reported by Sakshi TV on 03/10/2010

5)       One person named Niranjan was beaten to death by villagers in Balmoor village of Mahaboobnagar District reported in all TV Channels on 15/10/2010

6)      A man named Kishore killed his own mother in law branding her as witch in Adilabad District – reported in all TV Channels on 28/10/2010

7)      The villagers killed a man branding him as sorcerer in Gupthalavalasa village of G.K Veedi Mandal in Vishakhapatnam District   – Reported by Sakshi TV on 16/11/2010

8)      A man was killed by villagers branding him as sorcerer in Thadvai village of Warangal district reported in TV-1 on 03/03/2011

9)      One women was attacked suspecting her as witch later she died in Khammampally village of Karimnagar District – Reported in Maha TV on 06/03/2011

10)   One old women was killed suspecting her as witch in Muthyampeta village of Mallapuram Mandal in Karimnagar District – reported in ABN Andhra Jyothi on 20/03/2011

11)   A women named Anjamma was beaten to death suspecting her as witch in Pakala Village of Kodakandla Mandal in Warangal district – Reported by ETV-2 on 29/6/2011

12)   Five persons beaten up suspecting then as sorcerers in Malkapur village of Kondapur Mandal in Medak district – Reported   in ETV-2 on 23/07/2011

13)   Two persons belongs to Tribal community were killed suspecting them as sorcerers in Badrachalam of Khammam district – reported by ETV-2 on 10/09/2011

14)  A person named Balaraju was killed by his own son suspecting him as Sorcerer in Bibipeta village of Domakonda Mandal in Nizamabad District – reported by all TV Channels on 13/09/2011

15)  A person named Muthaiah was Killed by another person Subbaiah suspecting his as Sorcerer in Annavaram village of V.R.Puram Mandal in Khammam District – Reported in TV-9 on 13/12/2012

16)  One person teethes forcefully removed suspecting him as sorcerer  by the villagers in Pakalapadu village of Narsipatnam Mandal in Vishakhapatnam District – Reported in TV9 on 01/01/2012
